Mentoring for social inclusion. Theory and practice in dialogue.
Mentoring helps to build bridges between people from different living environments, encourages children and young people in their development and supports people from different sociocultural contexts.
Social mentoring offers the opportunity for people in vulnerable situations to have mentors who accompany them during a stage to achieve certain objectives.
We will explore the inner workings of mentoring and meet other participants who enrich our skills and understanding of different approaches to the world of mentoring. The summit will include world-renowned speakers, panels, workshops with creative experts, different sessions to exchange knowledge and tools, the opportunity to network in different spaces, as well as a cultural and social program.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS
This Congress is an interdisciplinary forum aiming to foster a dialogue between practitioners, policymakers and researchers on how mentoring in its various forms can contribute to social inclusion by bridging the existing gaps between these key actors.
Below, the thematic areas of the congress are described for those interested in submitting a symposium, session or a paper proposal. As you will see, these areas are broad enough to encompass various topics of interest in the field of mentoring. Please, send your proposals until 28 October 2019 here: fill in the form.
And highlight how your work is related to one of the following areas:
- Research-practice partnerships: shared experiences.
How research evidence may influence the practice of practitioners? how collaboration between researcher and practitioners can enrich the debate on new models as well as enhancing the impact of mentoring programs?
The intention is that researchers and practitioners can present their communications on good practices, impact studies, etc.
- Mentoring and socio-cultural diversity.
How do we work with socio-cultural diversity? What are the challenges of cross-cultural and same background mentoring? How mentoring may help to empower the Roma, refugees, non-accompanied minors, or other vulnerable groups? What are the implications from research or practice in the field for the matching? What approaches and practices are needed to fulfil the specific needs of each group in order to foster empowerment and social inclusion?
- Mentoring and gender. A crosscutting theme to include in mentoring programs, practices on specific programmes, empowerment, employability, sexuality, segregation/matching.
- Methodologies and ethics on mentoring.
What are the ethical, research and practical challenges of different types of mentoring programs? Some ethics topics could be:
- a) What ethical premises should be taken into account in the design and execution of mentoring programs? Should there be a deontological code regarding the mentoring programs?
- b) How context and culture matter? (Why do we do mentoring for people in vulnerability situations?) Ethics in the relationships between mentors and mentees.
- c) Ethics in the relationship with the involved agents (schools, social services, community centres, universities, families, public administrations, private companies).
– English: all proposals must be submitted in English.
- Tested: they must prove certain experience: minimum volume of participants (10); prove of having developed one edition of the project at least.
– Voluntary: projects where mentors are volunteers (we won’t accept projects with professional mentors who get money in return).
– Social: projects that attend population at risk.
– Proposals related to the topic “Research-practice partnerships: shared experiences”: must be tandem presentations, including researcher and practitioner.
– Extension: abstract must have a maximum of 500 words. PDF format.
– Sessions/Workshops: 1h 30 min length
